Back for 2019

Its been a while but I pleased to announce that the LoveBananarama blog is back for 2019.  Stay tuned as over the next few weeks the blog will be getting a new makeover to match the new branding.

The last few years of LoveBananarama have been a blast.  There was the original line up tour, which was a huge success in the UK and USA. The live album in various fabulous formats.  The coloured vinyl editions of the first 6 albums courtesy of London Records. In 2019, Bananarama are touring Australia, the new album has been completed and there is the fantastic reissues of Viva and Drama released by Cherry Red coming on 25 January 2019.

Followers to our social media accounts have increased.  Twitter has an average of 5,400 follows and Instagram has pipped the 1,000 mark.

Aside from all the Bananarama news, LoveBananarama has expanded to having a 'LoveBananarama Recommends' feature, where we'll be recommending the latest releases and oldies from our brand new for 2019 Amazon store.  There is also a competition coming very soon.

It's good to be back!

WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Does anyone else feel like they're living in some kind of Matrix-esque fantasy/dream sequence?  Trying to come to terms with Brexit was (and still is) a terrible shock.  Then trying to deal with the fact that America has willingly elected Donald Trump as their president is equally bizarre.

It feels like I am in a bad drug-fuelled coma.  I've never taken drugs - but I imagine a bad trip is close to like you're living in a nightmare version of the world, that's being run by a giant orange with a face, with shredded wheat for hair.

Ladies in red are dancing with me.....
Anyway. Word on the street was that something was about to happen in the Bananarama camp (and boy are they camp).  What could it be?  A new single, you ask?  A brand new album?  A range of ornamental thimbles?  Well, neither of those things happened. (Damn, I mourn for those thimbles!)

It turns out that Siobhan (Shuv, for short) is returning.  Returning from where, you ask?  A weekend in Bournemouth?  A trip to the post office?  Well, neither of those things! She's returned to go on a tour of the UK with Keren and Sara! Why, you ask?  Stop asking me stupid questions!!!  What am I?  Bananarama's personal assistant?  Bananarama's best friend and confidant?  Designer of ornamental thimbles for the rich and famous? No. No! NO!  The original Bananarama trio have reformed and they are going on tour in November (more dates to be announced soon, apparently).

I literally lost all of the bones in my legs when I heard this news.  It's May and it feels like Christmas.

Blah Blah Blah

Whilst perusing through the blog site and trying to update a few things (without putting in too much effort obviously, as I do have another job), it occurred to me that things are looking a little scruffy on here.

Then I remembered something significant.  This is exactly how I wanted the site to look when I created it.  As I mentioned on a previous post, I was largely inspired by those great fans that did their amazing work back in the 80's and 90's.   In the days before we all had home printers, touch screens and access to disturbing things (Justin Bieber's naked bits, for example), things were so simple and naive.

The 80's was a time when you could do a photo shoot with someone (Sara) holding a plastic lobster - and nobody batted an eye lid because it was normal.  In fact, if you weren't holding a lobster, you were chastised for being boring.

Not one person dared to question it.  Apart from maybe Boy George, as he was grumpy supreme back in the day (I think I learnt my best lines from him).

So when you are wondering why the blog site looks a bit basic and colourless.  Think of the days when the internet didn't exist, stop whinging and chant the following words "I am a complaining moose and I absolutely need to get a life".

Amen.  xx

The above message was posted on the official Instagram and Twitter pages.

If you are short of idea's, I have a few....

  • Half naked dancing to Mr Sleaze.  Surely this will capture the eye of K&S?  Dirty.  Dirty, indeed.

  • Perform the routine to Love In The First Degree behind a large metal gate.  Wearing small shorts will no doubt increase your chances of winning.

  • Performing an emotional reading of the lyrics of Bananarama song of your choice.  Love in The First Degree would work quite well.  'When I woke up, I was screaming....AGGGGHHHHHHH"  Of course, the risk is that you might look a bit unhinged.

I try to help.

Thank you, darlings

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for following the Twitter and Instagram accounts.  Your engagement with these accounts is really important because it's your enthusiasm and support that keeps them going.

Throughout the years, so many people have spent time and energy creating Bananarama fan websites, fanzines and online groups.  Their efforts also inspired me.

I'm literally amazed that we now have over 4,600 followers on twitter.  The Instagram account now has around 500 followers too.

Whoopppppeeee!
